The Foreclosure Blackhole So Dark Not Even Light Can Escape

I’m a stats guy. I love crunching numbers, but sometimes it is difficult to comprehend what the numbers truly mean without a good visual representation . For the last couple of weeks I have been developing a foreclosure site using Google Maps. I’ve discovered some interesting things about the foreclosure market in Phoenix. This picture represents just the lender owned properties (not even short sales) on the MLS in the Phoenix area. Even with my neighborhood near the “eye” of the black hole I cheer myself up every morning by telling myself MOST if not ALL of these homes will need to be sold this year. In the mean time, “Welcome to Countrywide Arizona”.

Congratulations and thank you for putting in all that time to develope and share the map. Is it possible to zoom in on it to get a better idea of the various areas? It appears to follow what we’ve all seen developing during the last couple of years.

Very scary. You can make it live if you like. Just take the linking option and then paste in the embed code. (Change your self to the HTML editor first in your User panel.) Max width is 480 pixels.

As soon as I get it closer to completed I will make the link active and then everyone can explore it. Feedback is also very welcome.

Pictures speak loudly. I just introduced a map-based IDX search on my sites and one of the first things I said to myself was, “Self, this sure does drive home the number of listings out there.”

It’s one thing to read, “There are 3,000+ homes listed in Gilbert”. It’s entirely different when you see those 3,000+ homes shown on a map of Gilbert…
